It’s not often that a business can survive a 16-year closure, but the Rhino Club isn’t just any type of restaurant! Known for its fun and lively scene during the 80s, this popular restaurant closed after a long and successful run in 2009. But as fate would have it, the space stayed closed and unused for over 15 years.
And with all the growth in Greensboro, a team decided it was time to bring the Rhino Club, back to life, and that they did! Reopened in December of 2025, I was curious as to what this classic bar and lounge would look like in the modern era.
As you head on over to its 315 S. Greene Street location, you won’t notice much from the outside. A simple plate-glass window up front with a weathered green awning, but what a surprise when you pull open the heavy wooden door!
Inside, the Rhino Club sports the classic Irish bar look and feel with lots of emerald green and dark woods. The long bar to the right is the highlight of the space, full of charm and decor. Heavy wood chairs line the front, and in back you’ll find a large offering of liquor bottles along with the heavy plate mirrors. Start to look around and drink in all the details. Little stained glass signs above the bar, the textured tin metal ceiling, a long row of petal-shaped fans, moving in unison. And of course, a huge golden rhinoceros head up front to match its namesake. It all feels really comfortable and inviting; I usually love my Irish bars being a Boston boy!
I haven’t eaten at the Rhino Club, but the menu offers the usual array of tasty bar food. Choose from salads to wings, potato skins, burgers, along with a handful of simple entrees. Wash it all down with a nice Guinness, and you’ll be a happy camper!
While I can’t say I knew what it was like in the roaring 1980s here at the Rhino Club, I can say they’ve done a phenomenal job refreshing the space. I love the fact that it has retained all of its original charm and is back up and running for a new generation of Greensboro party-goers. May the Rhino Club rock on forever!
