As summer comes to an end, thoughts turn to autumn leaves and if you’re in North Carolina, the NC State Fair! This classic event is a celebration of all the agri-goodness that this state is known for. From 4H competitions to baby chickens, funnel cakes, and more, the NC State Fair is a great way to tap into what the Tar Heel state is all about.
What’s great about the fair is how some things never change. Get that roasted corn drowned in butter, enjoy the milking cow demonstration booth, check out all the entries in the cake decorating competition. You’ve done it all before, and it’s fun going back year after year. But thankfully, things always get updated and refreshed from year to year so there’s something new to enjoy.
So what’s new in 2026 for the NC State Fair? Well, for this year, the theme is “A Memory Worth Making” and no truer words have been said! I have a lot of wonderful memories over the years about the NC State Fair and I always regret it when I miss a year.
One exciting new edition this year is the America 250 Wheel, the highest portable observation wheel in the WORLD. Standing 230′ high and with 45 gondolas (6 people per gondola) themed for US presidents, the America 250 Wheel will sit up front as a huge welcome to fairgoers. While last year’s Skygazer was pretty durn big, expect bigger and better in 2026!
Now, besides the rides, the state fair food is usually the biggest attraction! And thankfully, you can nom on everything from corn on the cob to smoked turkey legs, and much more. Check out the list of over 80 new food items for the 2026 NC State Fair!
