If you’re looking for a great spot for lunch or dinner, it would be remiss not to check out Huli Sue’s! Located in the classic Grove Arcade on Page Ave, Huli Sue’s offers a flavor-packed menu at decent prices. After two visits, I can say that they deserve a big thumbs up for all they are doing here, lunch or dinner.
Huli Sue’s BBQ and Grille, Asheville – Location, Interior

Step inside Huli Sue’s and you’ll be struck by the light and bright decor, focused on a surfer theme. Cool neon sign front and center along with some nice line-art murals offers a tasteful but colorful take on beach life. Old school surf videos are played on the televisions by the bar and the open kitchen gives the space an energetic and fun feel.

Overall it’s a welcoming space with charm and character! But that wouldn’t be good enough unless the food was great here. And thankfully, it is.

Huli Sue’s BBQ and Grille, Asheville – Menu, Food

The menu at Huli Sue’s is pretty broad covering Hawaiian-style bowls, sandwiches, smoked meat plates and tropical drinks. Start with the delicious jalapeno corn bread topped with pads of honey butter, dee-lish! The crispy ribs are also wonderful, three sesame encrusted bones of smoky pork and sauce.

For the mains, I’ve tried the classic loco moco (hamburger patty, fried egg, gravy, rice) which is a wonderful mess but very satisfying. Their Hawaiian burger falls into the same category, a tasty handful of two smash burgers, pineapple ring and teriyaki sauce. You definitely won’t leave hungry after dining at Huli Sue’s!

Huli Sue’s BBQ and Grille, Asheville – Service, Conclusion

Service at Huli Sue’s has always been quite good, even when they were recovering from Hurricane Helene. Professional and prompt, the staff here is well-trained and efficient. I’ve primarily eaten at the bar but it’s a smaller dining room so I’d expect top-notch service there, too.

Huli Sue’s is one of those hidden gem type spots! Great food, reasonable prices with interesting decor and attentive service is a no-brainer in my book. And while food in Asheville is usually pretty durn good, the value at Huli Sue’s makes it a must-visit for me. Enjoy it if you’re curious about island fare and you enjoy meat/proteins. You really can’t go wrong here.
